How to Keep Your Picture Level! A Simple Trick!

How to Keep Your Picture Level! A Simple Trick!

I know I am not alone when I walk by a framed photo or artwork on the wall, stop, walk back a couple steps, fix it "just a tad" so it isn't crooked, and continue on to where I am going again...am I???

Well, I had to find a solution...and I did!! I found this great tip to be a lifesaver with my own OCD "levelness".

All you need are:

1.) Thumb tacks

and...

2.) A hot glue gun!

After you measure and figure out where you want to hang your photo, glue on one tack in each of the bottom corners of the frame -

Hang your photo without pushing the tacks into the wall. Next, place your level above the photo -

Once it is level, push the the bottom of the frame placing the tacks into the wall. And....stand back and let those kids go crazy because those photos aren't going ANYWHERE!

Now, I can walk by the frames in my house and just keep walking. :0)

Clever Storage Ideas That I love!

I am writing a post about finding storage space for Tip Junkie next Wednesday so I have been thinking about storage!  Here are some great ideas and links to storage projects!

I love these storage bins on casters.  They would look so cure under a bench in an entry way.

I love these buckets that have been screwed to the wall too! Source Poppytalk

I love the idea of using the interior of you cabinet doors.. like this, it contains so much wasted space!

I really need to defrost my freezer... and make it look like this... Source BHG

I love the way this cleans up the space under your sink!  Genius!
Source A Thousand Words

A way to hide your cleaning supplies in the bathroom!  In usually unused space!

I love the idea of capturing the space above a window (or door!)!  It creates almost a valance of sorts and would be a great spot for decorative boxes(holding the ugly stuff!), books, plants, you name it!

I have been needing to organize Etta's bows and hair clips, and my jewelry.  So I went on a Google search.  Here are some of the things I found... as inspiration.  Sorry that I don't have sources for all of them.  I will try to show you what I came up with for Etta's bows soon.  I am still considering the jewelry thing for myself!

Closet Office Inspiration Galore!!

Closet Office Inspiration Galore!! By Jennifer

Hello and thank you so much for welcoming me!  Today, I am popping over from my blog, IHeart Organizing, which isn't just about home organization, but my love of all things home and project related and how they all combine with one another.  My typical focus is to not only create effective storage solutions to simplify and organize our lives, but to add that extra element of appeal and beauty to boot!  That means thinking outside of the norm, re-using things that may have originally had a different purpose, getting crafty or grabbing a drill.

Last year we made two updates to our home that created pure bliss for both my son and myself.  Let me explain further...

We currently live in a 1200 square foot ranch home that also has an unfinished lower level.  There are five happy Joneses and a furry friend all sharing that itty bitty 1200 square feet, so maximizing each space is a must.  And that's exactly what we did when it came time to create a workspace for mom, and a workspace for Preston, our oldest son.

Upon browsing through the blogosphere, I happened to see an office tucked inside a closet and I absolutely knew that was our solution.  Now, you may be wondering, "Doesn't that take away from your storage space?"  Well, it depends.  Since we A} had no where to place a desk/workstation in a common area of our home and B} have a couple of ways to store our clothing, we were set.  In fact, our Master Bedroom has two closet spaces, and by simplifying our contents and getting creative with the shelving and storage options, we easily transitioned all of our clothing to one closet.  When it came to our son's room, again, wall space was limited and because our closet office worked so well for us, we decided to continue on with the greatness.  All his clothes then were folded and stored within his dresser.

So now that you know that I am here to share our closet offices with you today, I will move on to the fun part of actually sharing them along with before and afters!

We actually started off in our Master Bedroom since I had such a need to have a workspace to blog, run my Etsy shop, craft and journal {the couch is totally not functional}.

Here is a look at what we started with:

My goal was to ensure the desk space still felt cozy and like it's own room/space {vs. a closet}, so it was going to get the treatment I would give a room that I was updating... we removed all of the shelving, and gave it a fresh coat of paint on the inside walls and trim, and installed some absolutely gorgeous wallpaper!

Sewing Closet Revamp; Using Every Inch Wisely!

Sewing Closet Revamp;
Using Every Inch Wisely!

I am so excited to share my new sewing closet with you today! I wish I could just sit in there and stare at it all day. As you may remember, my motivation to do anything creative has been non-existent since the holidays. A good part of this was due to the fact that my sewing area was a complete wreck. About a week and a half ago I committed myself to getting my sewing area remodeled and organized by the end of January. Well, I didn't waste any time. I have to first and foremost thank my husband for helping me to make it all possible. It took us a full weekend to get everything painted and built and then I took last week to get everything organized and put away. I can't stand to wait any longer! Here's the before and after...

Isn't it incredible?! I never imagined it would turn out this great. I'll tell you a little bit about the building process, and then I'll take you on a little tour of the finished closet.

Great Looking Storage: Wooden Antique Crate with Casters

Great Looking Storage: Wooden Antique Crate with Casters

A few months ago,  I was at a tiny little flea market looking for goodies.  Nothing was calling my name. Sometimes it happens, you come home from a flea market empty handed.  (My husband is probably reading this and saying to himself "When does she evercome home empty handed?")

So.. as I was getting ready to leave the market empty handed, I saw it...

An old but perfect wooden crate (click on photo and you can see it tucked in under my sofa table).

I asked the seller "how much?" and she told me she didn't think it was for sale! She explained to me that it was her packing crate for bringing her breakable dishes to the flea market.

Honestly, I don't know what's worse, seeing a 'sold' sign on something you really really want or being told an item you want to buy is not for sale.. ugh!!

I got really lucky when the seller's husband overheard our conversation and he decided to sell me the wooden crate. Thank goodness for husbands!! I think I paid $15.00. (Note: the wheels did not come on the crate.. discussion to follow).

Things I love about this crate, first off would be the color of the wood. The tone of the pine is soft but warm and not orange. It has no water stains, no mold, and is really sturdy.
Best part..it doesn't smell. Been there, done that!

I love the wood grain, the graphic writing, even the font they used! (what this font is called?)

I also love how deep the writing is impressed into the wood

Pine knots, roughness, and old nails

Love the side supports

So, back to the wheels which I added recently. I had a set stored in my garage waiting for the perfect project. Since this box gets heavy with all my magazines neatly organized inside {I mean thrown in}, I figured the wheels would help me move the crate around.  As you get to know me you will understand my obsession with moving everything around, constantly!

The wheels were very rusty and I was concerned about damaging my carpet. I purchased some rust cleaner and had to soak the wheels in a bucket for three days! Even after a good soak and scrub, there was still some remaining rust. One of my friends suggested I spray the wheels with a clear protective sealant. It worked perfectly. I have no rust on the carpet.

These wheels are bigger and heavier than they appear. I had my husband pilot drill the holes and we used short screws so they would not penetrate into the inside of the crate.

Every so often, I have to empty the box and purge my magazine collection.. This is an actual picture of my room today...magazines all over the floor.. which inspired me to do this post...

Love that I can store so many magazines and books out of sight! And now with wheels, I can drag my magazine storage crate from room to room... oh, who am I kidding, it's way too heavy...

It just looks better together with the wheels, don't-cha think?

I hope this will inspire you to add wheels to something.
