5 Tips for a Fabulous Tablescape By Jena

Hi, I’m Jena from Involving Color, and I’m SO excited to be here today at Remodelaholic!

Involving Color is a website and blog dedicated to following our home renovation and decorating journey including projects such as renovating our powder room, creating a gallery wall with free prints, overhauling our back yard, and beginning our Ikea kitchen renovation. Plus, we also have easy to browse inspiration galleries of reader submitted rooms organized by room type (e.g. bedrooms, kitchens, etc), room color, and we even have a gallery for painted and refinished furniture.

Our most recent completed project was our dining room reno, and now that it’s done and ready for guests, I had so much fun creating a colorful spring tablescape.

Before the candles and black plates just weren't speaking to me. I wanted to jazz it up a bit and add some color, pattern, and texture, and create an overall springy vibe in the room. I'm really happy with how it turned out and have put together a list of five tips to create a fabulous tablescape.

Love, Love, LUFF this image. I really want a mirrored table like this someday. I also love the orchid, who doesn't? ( I guess as long as you don't have allergies to them...)

But one thing I especially love is the pop of red. Do you see it? Doesn't it look great! I need to stage things in my house.

Hello Remodelaholic readers! Thank you Cassity for having me back again today. You will find me at my blog, 33 Shades of Green, crafting, cooking, designing, and trying out all sorts of creative projects.

Today I am sharing a tablescape I recently put together. Almost everything I used for this tablescape was something that I already had - there were only a few new things I purchased. Entre Vous; Entry Decor, Guest Contributor

I was sooo thrilled when Cassity contacted me asking if I'd be interested in contributing a monthly guest post for her super awesome blog. Gee, I better have a little think about that one....ummm. Of course, there was really only one answer and it started with a big fat 'Y'....YES, YES, YES please! I'm still a bit of a baby blogger and there'll be lots of readers out there who aren't familiar with me yet. My blog, The Painted Hive, is dedicated to beautiful and liveable interior design and decoration on a budget: thrifty home hints, DIY projects and tutorials, lots of furniture re-hab and beautiful decorating inspiration. For my first guest post on Remodelaholic I thought I'd blog about a space in my own home to give readers a chance to distinguish my style so here's a glimpse inside my little entryway.

At only 1.1 meters deep x 1.6 meters wide (3.5 x 5.2 feet) it doesn't even rate a mention on the floor plan! An inch either side of the photo below and you're straight into the living room or hallway.

Sorry, I don't have a before pic though if you can imagine a little undressed space with worn beige berber carpet, timber toned trim and a dirty apple green wall that's pretty much it!

I knew early on that I wanted wallpaper somewhere in my house and this space seemed the perfect candidate - its location is discreet enough not to dictate the tone for the entire house though perfectly positioned to create a nice impression.

I took Mum along to help choose and am so glad I did. I was drooling over all the bold metallics and colourful patterns though practical Mum thankfully steered me in a more neutral direction. Don't get me wrong, I love the statement a strikingly 'dressed' wall can make though my fickle self would have been bored with it in five minutes (while I do still admire the vintage tones and subtle print of my chosen 'outfit' - and it doesn't strictly govern any near-by decor).

We painted the trim white and re-carpeted then waited for an appropriately priced and proportioned piece of furniture to come along. You see, when the front door is opened it leaves a clearance of only 30cm (12 inches) so whatever I chose needed to be accordingly narrow. Eventually, a lovely weathered cedar console showed up - perfect! I had envisioned all white against the wallpaper though the tone in this table seemed just right as is.

I must confess, I change the decor around in my home ALL THE TIME (much to hubby's annoyance) though currently have the console adorned with clearance and thrift store finds, fresh lavendar and rosemary, some re-purposed knick-knacks and a few special pieces.

A Very Valen-tiny Table Setting! Table-scape for the kiddos.

This is my final Valentine's table-scape. It is all about bright red, candy and kids... Okay maybe leaning toward the girly, okay, totally girly... forgive me, I have a little girl! I was using what I had, and well, that is what I have, besides, isn't Valentines a little girly anyway?

Here is what I started out with. I kept the chandelier decorated in the same way as the family table-scape. I used a dollar store wired garland just spread throughout. Also, I hung the crystal hearts from this tutorial on fishing line from the chandelier.

I started with a red table cloth and some very large glass platters. I chose to use the platters as chargers. I purchased a set of 12 paper doilies, 4 large white hearts and 8 medium sized red at Walmart for about $2.00. I happened to have a roll of striped Christmas wrapping paper about 18 inches wide from the dollar bins at Target, I used this as the table runner.

I started with the platter and placed a large white paper doily in the center. Then I used a regular glass dinner plate (approx 11 inch plate) on top.

Then, I placed one of the small red heart doilies on the dinner plate.

Lastly, I placed a bowl on top of the dinner plate.

The napkins were my grandmother's. They are your basic picnic pattern, but they are very fitting for Valentines day, don't you think? I decided it would be fun to put all the utensils on one side with a cute striped lollipop (I got a bag of these from the dollar store). If I had been thinking at the time I photographed this, I would have put a small bow around the lollipop stick, cause that would have made it even cuter.

Do you remember how I made the dipped chocolate lollipop flowers? This might jog your memory. Well, I admit, I only made 1 flower, just so I could teach you how. What I really wanted to make was this funny little idea that popped into my head. A mini chocolate lollipop topiary. (tutorial coming this week)

They are so adorable! Simple, easy and I used what I already had around the house.

Finally, I used one last doily under the cups. Even better, I got to use for the first time the glasses that were my grandmothers. They were a one of their wedding gifts I believe. I love them. Actually want to hear a sad story- half of the glasses broke in shipping. I almost cried. But when I pulled them out yesterday, (I had saved the pieces of two that were almost wholly intact ) I was able to put them back together again, and all the kings horses and all the kings men cheered! Now I still have six. I will love them forever!

Lastly, I don't know if you have checked out my Fairy Berry Tutu Sponsor, but I used her Festive berry tutu on a teddy bear of Etta's as the center piece. -

Side note, do you know why they call them Teddy bears? Theodore Roosevelt, yes, but why exactly? He was an avid hunter, but the story is that he went hunting one day didn't find anything. The hosts of the hunt caught a bear cub and tied him up to a tree and told Theodore to go ahead and kill the poor thing. But he wouldn't do it! Thank Heaven! So, the reporters made a cartoon of a cuddly bear and Mr. President and the bear became known as a Teddy bear.

Okay, so now that we have had our history lesson for the day. Here is the rest of the table. The center has another wired garland and candy strewn around. That should about cover it. (Just ask if you need any clarification, or I missed anything)
