I just have to vent for a minute.
Last night we took the trash out late so it would be ready to get picked up today and forgot to shut the garage door... And some jerk decided to shop our garage.
We lost at least $1,000.00 worth of tools,- at least... we still need to go through and see all that is gone. (edit - the home owner's deductible is too high to cover any of it!!)
It is such a bummer.
Our compresser,
brad nailer,
random orbital sander,
circular saw
and Jig saw
are the ones we for sure know are gone.
All of which were used almost daily, if not weekly.
I just don't understand why people would do that, I hope it rots their conscience out...
I AM MAD and just sorta sick in my stomach. I don't know how we are going to replace them, we have bills up the wazzo right now... it just really hurts that someone would do that to someone else.
EXPLETIVE!!!!! A BIG FAT ONE!! (I don't usually swear so this will just have to do!)
On the bright side, I am super thankful to my Father in Heaven that the girls are safe. That we are all safe.

oh, cassity i am soooo sorry!!!!! will insurance cover any of it? i sure hope so. if not, maybe you can replace some with yard sale tool finds?
Oh no :( I am so sorry that someone took advantage of your home while it was vulnerable! Will your homeowner or renters insurance take care of your loss?
Oh no ... I'm so sorry. Have you checked with your homeowner's insurance? Maybe some of it will be covered. The kinds of people who do those things don't think like the rest of us. I doubt they have a conscience. Its more likely that they needed drug money. Also ... call the local pawn shops quickly and look on Craigslist ... that is how my daughter found the stuff stolen from her fiancee and how the police caught the guy.
I'm so sorry to hear about that. We live in a similar neighborhood where God forbid we left our garage door open we'd lose a few good things too. It sucks people can't be trusted. :(

I am sooo so sorry to hear this! I am happy that you are all safe. My neighbor leaves his open ALL the time and I am just waiting for the day the police show up to his house because something happened.
Ugh, that sucks. I'm going to echo Cassie, will insurance pay to replace anything? Did you make a police report? (I'm sure you did, just had to ask.) If you know the serial numbers of anything you or the police can call local pawn shops and tell them to be on the lookout for tools matching those numbers. Sorry this happened!
Oh, that's awful! The idea to check with pawn shops and craigslist is a really good idea. I hope you recover some of it.
OH NO!!! What an ass. Seriously. My parents' house was robbed 2 years ago and my mom lost all of her jewelry, including her engagement ring (most of my sentimental/baby/childhood jewelry was taken, too, since it was still in their house). But the feeling of being violated is as bad as, or even worse than, the loss of your things, isn't it? Ugh, I still shudder thinking about it. But kudos to you for looking on the bright side...in the end, tools are just "things" that can be replaced. Your family is priceless! Lots of love and a big hug from Hawaii. XOXO

Not cool! I am so sorry, it is the worst feeling when someone does that to you.
My word, I am so sorry. We keep our door to the garage unlocked all the time, actually we never lock it. you are very lucky that the person decided to not come inside and shop the house too. With that said, I do hope that the compressor explodes in his face, the nail gun shoots through what ever he is working on and rips it up and then with the sander, he accidentally sands the hair off of his chest. Maybe the bright side is that with insurance you can get better and newer stuff with the insurance money.
That's awful! I hope your insurance will cover some of it.
I am so so sorry! It is amazing how horrible some people are! Our insurance deductible is higher than a $1000, and I am sorry if you too will have to eat this very high loss yourself.
Oh Cassity, this just sucks. I'm so sorry. And I know how it feels. I work for my hubby's fmaily's business and we've had a few break-ins with tens of thousands worth of tools stolen. It's sickening. And insurance companies are the WORST when it comes to tools. The depreciation amounts that they put on a *lifetime warranty* tool is infuriating.
I join with many others in expressing my sincere sorrow. This could have happened to any of us, too. I run very early in the morning, and go out our garage door. Just a few days ago, I found ours open when I was to leave. We have many tools that we sacrificed so much to purchase and I was so thankful no one had noticed. You are in my prayers that good things will help you replace your loss!
UGH! I am so sorry! I know how you feel...my son accidentally left the garage open about a year ago (at our old house) and my husband entire tool box, two bikes, and a shopvac was stolen.

What about your homeowner's insurance? That is what it is there for..... The person who did this will pay. You might never know how, but they will.... Chin up girl!
Oh no! That's just awful! I agree, if ever there was a time for swearing, this would be it. Hopefully your deductible isn't too high and your insurance will cover the tools. Definitely check the local pawn shops. Chances are the theif wasn't a DIYer - just someone looking for drug money. Hope they catch him.
I feel your pain! Last summer we had several hundred dollars worth of stuff stolen out of our truck (they even stole the air freshener!) It was just enough that we couldn't afford to replace it all but not enough to get any money back after the insurance deductible. The worst part is that we are almost positive it was the friends of our next door neighbor. We have always tried to help people out and make a difference in our community but after having someone treat us like that it made it really difficult to want to continue helping people around here. It has been a year now and we still struggle with keeping a positive attitude towards this neighborhood. :( We've had a few small things stolen since then but luckily nothing expensive.

We had something similar happen. But two maybe three weeks later they caught the thieves and we got most the items back. The other piece of advice- check the pawn shops. Turn in photos to them and the police report number. That's how we caught a thief that stole from my mother. Best of luck...and you are right at least everyone is safe!
Oh that's just terrible! Very thankful that everybody is safe, but what a terrible thing to wake up to!
I am so sorry. I worry about that all the time. Because I'm in the same boat. High deductible and no money to replace it if someone should make off with it.

Check your neighborhood pawn shops, and fill out a police report. My sister had a chop saw stollen out of their garage, and reported it. It was found a local pawn shop and returned to them, the guys are now awaiting trial! You never know! Also for anyone else out there, PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR TOOLS!! put your name in an inconspicuous spot, this way if they are stollen, it is very easy to prove they are yours!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this, it totally sucks. Glad you all are safe though. I left our garage open last night too, and it is crammed full of furniture from clearing out my husband's grandmother's storage unit. Luckily nothing was stolen. I hope some good karma comes your way soon!

Oh my gosh! I am so sorry that happened to your family! Your family was in deed being watched over and so blessed that the creep was content with what was in the garage rather than trying to get inside!
Oh how awful! We have had a lot of garage shopping in our area too, even in broad daylight! It shocks me the lack of conscience some people have! I'm sorry about all of your tools. I hope somehow you will get them back.

Oh, that's horrible! When a stranger steals your stuff it makes you feel so invaded and horrible, even though they're the ones that should be feeling horrible. That people do stuff like steal just makes me feel sick. :( I'm sorry - that really sucks, but I'm glad that you're looking on the bright side a bit - at least your family is healthy and safe, and that's what matters the most.

Oh man, that STINKS! Stealing just really makes me livid - you feel so violated and angry about it. Get a job and buy your own tools - don't take mine!! That takes a lot of nerve!
I am so sorry that this has happened to you. I know that everyone here has suggested insurance, but let me say you may want to rethink that.
The first time our house was broken into they stole $2500 worth of items. Our deductible was $500 so of course we reported. The next thing we know our insurance increased the next year by $300, the next by $400, and the next by $500.
By the way you can't switch insurance companies easily if you have a claim with in three years. So we were stuck and our insurance had increased by $1200. If we had known it was going to do that we would have never of made a claim.
This may not be common, but I know several people it has happened to.
I am so sorry. It sucks that people like that are out there.

I agree with the above, check pawn shops and craigslist and file a police report. I had my camera stolen a few weeks ago and the police told me that if I could get the serial number they could see if it had been sold in a pawn shop because they keep up with who sells what and they might be able to catch the guy... except I cant find the serial number. But I hope they catch the guy and you get all of your tools back. I can't see how people live with such things on their conscience!
I'm so sorry! That is aweful, and I hope the guilt consumes them. Sadly,there are so many today, who simply don't care about others, just themselves. I'm glad everyone is safe. don't lose faith in the good, there is a lot of it out there, it just doesn't seem like it right now.

Our deductible is also high. At times like this, I kick myself for that. We had a broken pipe which came in just about even with the $1,000 deductible.
I bet your neighbors would be willing to let you use stuff. Wish you lived nearby! My husband has a ton of tools that are just sitting most days. Let the neighbors know!

That is so awful! I would be angry too. I'm glad you can see the positive in that everyone is safe. I'm guessing there is a door from your garage to your house and if it's like ours, it would be easy to get past if someone wanted to break in. You have a ton of followers, maybe you can talk to a home improvement store or tool maker who might be willing to give you some new tools to review?!

Nothing was taken but we didn't have much in the garage - no power tools or anything. My neighbor left her garage door open all night just a few days ago. They don't lock the door going into the house so somebody could have just walked right in while they were asleep!!! That is so scary!! Now I always check to make sure the garage door is down right before I go to bed. It's so sad that there are so many dishonest people in the world today. I know what you mean about the bills and now this. We are in the same boat as you. Just when I think we might get our heads above water, some big expense comes up. Try to hang in there. : )

Well this just stinks. When ever something bad happens in my family we have this one saying that seems to make us all feel better "Well, it's not cancer" It sure won't bring back your tools, but somehow it always puts things in perspective for us.

Cassity, I'm so sorry about your burglary. I would be fuming as well. I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but keep an eye out on Craig's List or pawn shops. A lot of times the theft is only trying to steal something of value, not to use themselves.
Best of luck getting your tools back or replacing them ;-(. I'd be lost without mine.

I feel for you- with insurance so high, we all have high deductibles.
I'm assuming you filed a police report? You need to so they have any of the serial numbers on file, then you need to start hitting the pawn shops! Seriously, most of those tools, if they did not have your name or id mark on them, are probably there! AND if you do find one, then the police have a bona fide lead to track the rest down! Trust me the pawn sheets are slow in getting to the police, usually you can have quicker results!

One thing that always helps me (after I've uttered a lot of expletives) is to give something to someone in need. The guy asking for change, buying flowers from that lady by the freeway, over-tipping a waitress. It's just a great way to feel like part of something good after feeling bad...

THAT'S my biggest pet peeve: you have NORMAL people who sit down and discuss how to WORK to EARN what they want...then you have IDIOTS who sit down and discuss how they can STEAL what YOU'VE worked for!!! Makes me see red!!! I'm glad that your family was spared any physical harm!!!
That SUCKS! I don't know if you have time for this, but you could try checking Craigslist for your items and see if they turn up in the For Sale category. Then contact officers if you can track down the bandits. A couple people in our area have had success with it.
If nothing else, as you say, at least everyone is safe.

I'm so sorry you became a victim to the takers, it just keeps getting worse and worse. It's scary too, your home is one place you usually feel safe. I'm old enough to remember not having to lock your doors or your car and never having to worry about anything being taken. Times sure have changed, some of it not for the better.
We just bought a house and before we moved in, some jerks broke in and removed all the copper pipes in the basement. We replaced the plumbing ourselves and it cost close to $1000, but the damage to the central air,and hot water heater will have to be done by professionals.
My daughter's apartment was broken into twice, mostly they stole her DVDs to sell. The newest trend according to our police department, (Albuquerque)is breaking in when people are home just to beat them up!

Do any of your neighbors or the street have any surveillance cameras that may have gotten video or snapshot of the car, the person or license? It might be worth a try. Also making a police report is good. Have them come out and fingerprint your garage to see if they can come up with a suspect. I wish you well in getting some peace from this. My mother and I have been on that side of your experience and it is very disappointing.
Aww dammit, I hate it for you! I hope someone hurts them in the same way.
