Refinished Kitchen Cabinet Doors Painted White

Refinished Kitchen Cabinet Doors
Painted White With New Hardware
contributed by Blueloom

When we bought our raised bungalow, we inherited the 70s style kitchen with very dark cabinets, no backsplash and laminate countertop that looked like wood paneling. Kitchen window was also original in a very good shape but dark brown. We decided to replace the window and refinish cabinets instead of installing new ones. The only good thing about our 70s style cabinets was that they were maple wood, so we could send and paint them.
Here is the kitchen before:

First, we removed all cupboards and hardware. We used electric sender to send cabinets to bare wood. It was a very time consuming process but eventually saved us a lot of money, and we were pleased with the result.

This is how the cabinets look like after sending. They were ready to be painted.

We applied one coat of primer and two coats of paint and installed new hardware. We also installed backsplash a replaced countertop ourselves (more on that in the near future).
Here is our new kitchen:

Once our window was replaces, we installed two identical light fixtures above the sink. We paid lesss than $100 for both lamps at Home Depot.
New light fixtures

Old cabinets, new look

If you purchased your first home and like us inherited an old kitchen, you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars by putting a brand you kitchen in. We saved a lot of money by painting old cabinets. The only expenses were primer, paint and new hardware.
What is your experience with kitchen renos? We would like to hear from you. Are you renovating or putting a brand new kitchen in?

I will be tackling that same project when the weather is warmer. We wanted new cabinets but just too expensive so I am also refinishing and painting them. Yours look great.

I've been wanting to paint the dark wood cabinets in my bathroom white for a while and after seeing this...I'm totally going to just go for it! I want that room to be cheerful and bright so I'm going to go for whites, yellows and oranges!
Thanks for re-inspiring me!

Sand. Sander. Sanding. Sandpaper. The cabinets are much improved for all that hard work.

We just repainted our cabinets and countertops. We probably spent about $100 total. We LOVE it! jaysonandkassi.blogspot.com
