Light my Fire: Mantles Galore
20 June 2011
I wish this house had a fireplace, unfortunately it doesn't! But I have been considering, for the last year making a faux mantel, and I have worked it into the layout of our room, yea! So, even if we don't get to watch the fire and cuddle, I can at least have a child safe place to decorate for the seasons.
I have been looking for inspiration, and here are some of my favorites. ( I have been collecting images since before Pinterest so i don't have sources for all of them sorry!)

I love the fireplace that has the tv in it! That's a brilliant use for a no longer working fireplace. Plus it seems like it would be fairly easy to build a frame around it to fit the tv size. Thanks for sharing all these ideas!
The first image is from Anna at Door Sixteen I think. It looks like her fireplace.
Such great inspiration and timely too, as I'm thinking of yanking out my gas insert and making my fireplace non-working.
Thanks.
I would if I didn't have a real fireplace. Love the look and the way it anchors a room. Why not, the examples you showed are gorgeous!
Yes! If you can't have the real thing I like the faux mantle. It gives the room a great focal point. I think I like the the second picture the best. I'm a sucker for the round mirror. I just posted my latest attempt at mantle decor. I need help with mantle decorating so if you get a chance take a look at mine and tell me what it needs? I just added a mantle to my fireplace 3 months ago and I'm not sure how to decorate it. Thanks!

I love this idea!! A go for sure. My fav is the third one down with the red brick, so clean and classic!
I love the first one then the beach themed one. You can also buy those heaters to place inside the fireplace for the look of flames instead of a real fire. I tried the tv in the fireplace but it was just too low for comfortable viewing. If I am correct in this thought of you just having the frame against the wall, without anything else to represent a real fireplace,I like the archetechial look of # one again with a plant in the space where the fire would be. You could change out the decor to fit the seasons or if you wanted to put a grouping of candles in that area it would look very homey and beautiful for the holidays. Whatever you decide I'm sure it will look lovely in your home.
I love the beachy one from Emerald Cove Jewelry. I've been thinking about this for a while but my only concern was that if it wasn't recessed into the wall, or was only recessed 3-4", that it would look bad. But I like that one because it seems to be completely applied to the face of the wall, it's obviously faux and it still looks good. It would be great for hanging stockings. I say go for it.
